Changes To Come

Due to the recent events, we have decided to backup all our current data and reinstall the server entirely. This will be happening on the 26th of November (this Sunday).

There has been a lot of concern as to what has actually been going on. Well to be frank, it was nothing more than a malicious attack from one of our users. I believe a script or program was obtained and compiled and ran on the server which basically gave the attacker root permissions. After which several logs were tampered with, our shadow file was stolen and a new user also with root permissions was created allowing the user access to the server with root permissions at any time he pleased.

This is very unfortunate for us, as the attacker was in fact Zashi, who was a member of staff.

However the events of the last few days has stressed to us that some users use some very insecure passwords. We hope that all users in future do choose to use stronger passwords than previously, though the same circumstances cannot be recreated unless our shadow file gets stolen once again.

The main plans we have for now is reinstalling the base system for the server and improving security features. More news will come when it is available.
